Feb. 13, 2012- Great Bend Kansas, Companion Sister Rupper
Sometimes we get stuck in the mud…again!
Oh my goodness thanks to all of
you wonderful people! All the packages and letters this week were exactly what
I needed. I love you so much! Thank you.
We had exchanges this week with the Sisters in Hays. I stayed in Great Bend and
was with Sister Touli. Oh my goodness that girl is amazing. She is from Samoa
and has been on her mission for about 9 months. We went about our day as normal
and headed to Garfield for a dinner appointment. Unfortunately, (but no
surprise) our dinner appointment forgot we were coming, so instead we went
tracting to find any of the few people that live in the town. The less active
members we were looking for were on road H. We were on road B.
As we drove down
the alphabet and were between G and H we got stuck IN THE MUD! It was hiding
under all this snow and ground fog. Ugh! When getting out of the car to survey
the area we stepped in mud that came up to our ankles. Adding to all the fun,
there was a layer of water under the mud. Perfect. Not only was our car going
nowhere but also it was 7pm, in the country, pitch black, with not a single
house or light in sight for miles. Thank heavens for cell phones! We called the
member we were supposed to have dinner with and asked her to rescue us.
Sister Touli and I sat in the car
waiting. We both turned to each other and confessed something. We knew we
shouldn't have gone down that road! We both had felt prompted numerous times to
turn around but did we listen? NOPE! I remembered what a member had told me
after she heard about the first mud incident. She said, "It’s not about
getting stuck in the mud but how you are going to get out of it."
Obviously we had ignored the spirit and this was the result of doing so. I made
a promise to myself as I sat in the mud for the second time that from now on,
I'm going to act on every prompting that I have.
After an hour of feeling guilty
for ignoring the spirit, help arrived in all its glory in the form of a giant
truck! Once again we were saved!
I'm no longer going to dwell on being stuck in the mud but how I'm going to get out. Getting out leads to greater things and those greater things lead to miracles and miracles come from God.
I know that Heavenly Father is carrying me through this transfer. I couldn't feel
more blessed in my life. There is always a way out of the mud and I'm
determined to find it.
Oh and by the way… our companionship study the next morning was on
recognizing the promptings of the spirit.
I love you all. Have a great week. Be safe
Sister Kenz
