October 17, 2011 If All Else Fails Follow Instructions

Good morning everyone.
I hope you all had a great weekend and are just so excited that it’s Monday.

Odds and ends of the week:
-Sister Fie'eiki is back! It’s so nice to not have to talk to myself anymore. She's really excited to be talking as well...almost to the point of annoying....almost. :)

-Missouri is breeding mutant spiders! I saw a HUGE (seriously huge) spider on a door we were trying to contact. Oh my goodness. I don't really mind spiders but I did mind this one. Ugh, it was gross.

-The changing leaves and trees are beautiful here. Love it.
-I went to Golden Corral Restaurant for the first time ever.. Fe told me that it was amazing but I have a problem with mass food. Let’s just say my opinion hasn't changed.

-We are still trying to meet with our investigators........endure right?

Our training this week was great. It’s been a "Fall" theme this transfer and this past week was "don't fall into convenience"

I have realized as a missionary and also in life that it is much easier to do what is convenient than what is right. The convenient is hardly ever the right choice; it’s just much easier to stay in the comfort zone. Much easier to…. let your companion do it, assume the people you walk by are not ready or interested in gospel, to fall into the convenience of the world. I unfortunately have done that a lot in my life. I’ve enjoyed the comfort of my own little world that I built around me. I have now realized that falling into convenience makes us no different from anyone else. This religion is not meant to be convenient and we are not meant to fall into it. Instead, we must focus on falling into the "inconvenient”. "Following the promptings of inconvenience brings miracles."

Living the way we do in the Gospel is not convenient with the standards of the world. Believing what we believe is conveniently criticized and mocked (especially now). But we living our lives inconveniently, helps us live as we should. It helps us to be that much closer to our Savior, to be that "child of God" we really are.

Forget about the inconvenience and look at the blessings. We are the ones that benefit from our own effort. Our Heavenly Father knows "the intentions of our hearts" and only expects our best. That is all He expects, and we (should) expect of ourselves. Perfect isn't an option. It doesn't exist. Just do the best that you can and if all else fails, follow instructions. Follow the standards we have been given. Follow the promptings of the inconvenient and do them anyway. Do it because you know that it is right. Do it because doing it is much better than not doing it. Do it because we have all accepted the call and with that call comes the responsibilities.

Carpe Diem: Seize the day. Look to understand and not to be understood. Seize what we have been given and follow inconvenience.
This is all much easier said than done. It’s going to take me a while to get into that inconvenient mode, but I do know that if we put forward our best effort; that is good enough.

I'm grateful that Heavenly Father accepts our efforts, despite how weak they may be. It’s my prayer that we continue to be firm in our testimonies and steadfast in our diligence. We may often fail Him, but He will never fail us.

I love you all. Be safe.
Have a great week.
