Hi! I'm in Missouri! Well, actually Kansas. But I'm here!
We left the MTC Wednesday morning and arrived in Kansas City, MO around 1 pm after a hot, squished, plane ride. My mission president and his wife (President and Sister Van Komen) met us at the baggage claim. They are wonderful people. (The assistants were there as well. Anyone remember Ryan Thomas? Yup he's one them. He says he remembers who I am but I'm pretty sure he is lying. Sister Whittier and I (my temporary companion) rode with the President on the way to the mission home where they passed by the temple being built. (its looking great)
The rest of that day was spent in meetings and "getting to know you" sessions. It was a long day.
Thursday was transfers. I was informed and sent to Junction City Kansas where I would meet my trainer and new companion, Sister Nuckles (fyi- she pops her knuckles constantly. Ironic?) She is wonderful. I wouldn't be doing half as well as I am without her help. Oh and she is from St. George and went to High school with Jessie......she has choice thoughts about her :) Small world!
Anyway, the area I am in currently for the next 6 weeks is a Spanish speaking area. Yes Spanish speaking. (Just in case you didn't know I don't speak Spanish. At all.) Plus we are the only missionaries in our area. Why you ask? Well Junction City is centered around an army base. Yup an army base. And because most of the husbands are deployed it's just the wives at home. So they took out the elder companionship last summer and left the sisters. In other words it's just Sister Nuckles and I in a giant spanning area.
Because we are the only missionaries in our area we are in charge of an English ward and a Spanish branch. In the Spanish branch we teach the primary kids ages 8-11. Thankfully it's in English. The only thing that is in Spanish is the sacrament.
There are about 10 different people or families I could tell you about that we are either helping to become reactivated or new members. It's so great. My favorite family is the Kings. They just moved here from North Carolina to be stationed in Fort Riley (the army base). They were investigating before they moved and then contacted the missionaries once they got here. We are continuing to teach them and have a baptism date for the twelfth of march. They have a little girl I have just fallen in love with. Her name is Lanie and she turns 3 this weekend. They are so ready to join the church. They are wonderful.
Anyway, I love you all. I'm sorry this email is so cut off. The computer I was on stopped working and now my time is up.
Thank you for all the support and love.
Who would have thought I would be in a Spanish speaking army base area? :)
Love you.
